An ambitious $8bn expansion plan by Las Vegas Sands (LVS) to transform its Marina Bay Sands casino resort is now underway. Miriam Adelson, majority owner of LVS, attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was also present.

The renovations will see the addition of a luxury hotel tower with 570 suites, to join the 2,561 existing rooms at the property.

The tower will also contain several restaurants, a rooftop experience, spa and wellness facilities, and 200,000-square feet of meeting space. It’s also adding a 15,000-seat arena for a variety of live entertainment shows.

LVS President and CEO Robert Goldstein spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony about how 15 years after the casino opened for the first time, it has delivered so far on the initial vision of transforming the landscape of tourism in the region.

He labeled the Marina Bay Sands as the “most successful integrated resort in history” and believes that the upcoming work will take the facility to the next level.

According to the current timeline, the grand opening of the renovated facility will complete some time in early 2031.
